School Bus Dragging Young Girl Down Kentucky Street

Camera Captures Girl Dragged by School Bus

A Kentucky elementary school student is injured but OK after her school bus dragged her at least 100 feet down a residential road on Friday afternoon.

The disturbing incident was captured on a Louisville resident’s surveillance camera.

The unidentified girl, who is 5 or 6, was getting off a Jefferson County Public Schools bus that departed from Wilkerson Elementary School when her backpack got stuck in the door, Louisville Metro Police spokesman Dwight Mitchell told NBC affiliate WAVE3 in Kentucky.

According to police, the bus dragged the girl at least 100 feet. But neighbors told WAVE3 the distance looked longer than a football field — and that the bus only stopped because another driver who spotted the girl sped up to him.

“I seen this car go flying by,” said resident Esther Karschner. “The reason why that car was racing was to stop the bus.”

Karschner and other neighbors went running to the girl, who had road rash and was taken to Kosair Children’s Hospital, where she is expected to recover.

“She was talking,” Karschner said. “She wanted to see her mommy.”

The surveillance video was from the home of Tom Carman, who said he was shocked the bus driver didn’t notice the girl caught in the door.

“It was amazing. I mean, I couldn’t believe it. Her bouncing around in that door all the way down the street,” he said. “It was bad.”

Jefferson County Public Schools administrators are investigating the incident, WAVE3 reported.
